The FM series (FM200, FM350, FM500) uses a 12V DC motor paired with a linear actuator arm. The MM series (MM260, MM360, MM371, MM571) runs on the same voltage but uses different mounting bolt spacing on the actuator housing, so an FM arm will not simply bolt onto an MM-series bracket without an adapter plate that doesn’t always make sense to use.

There’s a compatibility gotcha we see regularly in Huntington Beach: Mighty Mule changed the wiring connector on the motor pigtail around 2018. Signs Your Mighty Mule Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing

• Gate stops mid-travel and beeps or flashes an error code. The motor’s internal gear train is binding, or the actuator arm is losing thrust. On FM-series arms, this shows up first on hot days when the grease thins and the gear lash widens.
• Motor runs but the gate doesn’t move. This is almost always a stripped drive gear inside the actuator housing. The motor spins, the gear teeth skip, and the gate stays put. Holding the remote longer just rounds the gear further.
