• The gate hums or vibrates mid-travel. A failed bearing doesn’t roll; it chatters. The vibration is the sound of a square-ish wheel grinding across a steel track. It gets louder under load and quieter when the gate is empty.
• The gate droops at the trailing end. When the top hinge wears, the gate leans forward and the bottom corner closest to the house sags toward the ground. You can see it from the street as a slight wedge of daylight under the bottom rail.
• The gate stops 2 to 6 inches short of the closed position. The motor’s limit switches are still set correctly, but the gate physically can’t travel farther because a worn roller has changed the geometry.
